I'm BACK

Yes, I have returned to Maine renewed and invigorated after being in Florida for two months. After taking lessons from Ann Sullivan at the Von Liebig Art Center, I have come away with a new understanding of color. I think you will agree that my paintings are more vibrant.

Painting in Naples

I am painting fast and furiously in preparation for the Glen Eagle Art Show. I have just received some nice floater frames that I can use.
"The Approach" 8 X 10 oil on canvas
S.G.Roberts

I just painted on a linen canvas and found it to be so much fun....smooth. The paint flows really well. I really like the linen but they are more expensive.

Sunset on Monhegan

This is a painting that I did on a very small scale,  6 X 6 . I wanted to concentrate on the sky. This photo of the sunset on Monhegan looking at Manama was just the colorful sky that I wanted to paint. I liked the small version so I decided to try a larger size,

New Year's resolution

I have a New Year's resolution to paint loosely. I have been working on the details of painting trying to get my paintings more realistic. I have come to the conclusion that this is not how I want to express myself. Loose is the way to go for me. I want to do more landscape paintings that are abstract representational.
The first paining is of a view off MaƱana just of the coast of Monhegan. I didn't paint this as abstract as I would like...maybe on the next go-round. It is worth doing again but with a bit more abstraction. The second paining is of a Maine Island. I just watched a video of Philip Frey at the Court House Gallery and was inspired by his Island of Maine paintings. I painted one of his paintings or at least one similar that is not for sale, it is just a study.
